Greer Steel adds full service center capabilities to Ohio operation

March 6, 2013

Greer Steel, a producer of cold-rolled strip steel, has completed an expansion of its Dover, Ohio, operation to include full service center capabilities.

The expansion of capabilities includes a new 13,000-sq.-ft. addition to the operational portion of the site. The facility now provides all of the strip and stainless products offered through the company's Ferndale, Mich., service center, as well as a variety of service center quantities. This enables the facility to meet traditional mill-quantity release requirements, as well as smaller-quantity releases typically associated with JIT and kanban programs.

The 13,000-sq.-ft. addition features a 40,000-lb. overhead crane and full radiant floor humidity control to support retention of both intermediate processed product and finished goods. The expansion also incorporates a larger variety of grades, widths, gauges, and coil sizes.
