CMC Steel Group names executive vice president

Commercial Metals Co. has announced that Bob Unfried has been named as executive vice president, finance and administration for the CMC Steel Group. Unfried is responsible for accounting, credit, information technology, environment, employee benefits, and risk management functions.

Unfried served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and attended the University of Texas at Arlington. After receiving his degree in accounting, he joined Touche Ross and Co. (now Deloitte Touche) in Dallas as a senior auditor. In 1980 Unfried joined the CMC Steel Group as assistant controller. He transferred from SMI-Texas when the Birmingham mill was purchased in 1983.

Unfried served in many capacities at SMI-Alabama for nearly 20 years. He was responsible for all commercial operations and also was involved in mill operations. Appointed vice president and general manager in 2001, he also was responsible for Allegheny Heat Treating and Impact Metal Products.
