Denman & Davis launch initiative to expand services

Denman & Davis, Clifton, N.J., has launched a business initiative called GPA—general line, plate maximization, and accountability—aimed at improving its internal business process and its ability to serve the business market.

The company plans to enhance the inventory of general line materials, including stainless, carbon, and alloy steel products in tubing, bars, sheet, and plate, and place a greater focus on light structurals. The company will also track transfers of materials and monitor adherence to deadlines when an order needs further modification at one or more fabricators.

Plate maximization is designed to increase efficiencies in the method of handling materials. Multiple orders are combined and burned from a single plate in one session. The burning is planned so that only scrap remains, meaning each plate is handled only once.

The accountability platform accelerates and intensifies the review of the company's internal sales structure and then shares the information with the entire sales team. The company says the process emphasizes customer visits, highly focused tracking of existing customers and targeted accounts, and a continual review of each aspect of the general sales activity.

Denman & Davis is a general-line independent steel service center.
