DeWys Mfg. partners with local school to increase STEM education

Marne, Mich.-based metal fabricator DeWys Mfg. and several regional businesses and manufacturers have announced a partnership with Kenowa Hills Public School, Grand Rapids, Mich., for the new science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) lab program.

The lab, located within DeWys’ secondary location, is a hands-on classroom with more than 3,400 sq. ft. of workspace that is strategically placed beside a real-life manufacturing setting. This gives students insight into real-world careers while they learn to innovate, research, and create to prepare to become tomorrow's leaders.

The facility is equipped with computers for CAD, 3-D printers, and computer screens at each workstation, allowing for Multicast imaging to join teachers with students. The space also includes access to collaborative technology, with a core curriculum designed to help students accelerate in studies while earning math or science credits.

The program is open to students in grades 7 to 9; in 2017 the program will accept 10th-graders as well.
