Direct Metals supplies galvanized bar grating for Illinois overpass project

Kennesaw, Ga.-based steel service center Direct Metals has supplied 914 sq. ft. of 1-1/2- by 3/16-in. serrated galvanized 19W4 bar grating from its Waukegan, Ill., warehouse to Grayslake, Ill., for the village’s Washington Street overpass project.

The service center provided 90 pieces of bar grating in 22 different part sizes. Each piece is notched and banded to fit around the girder stiffeners and handrail posts. The grating is attached to the structure using galvanized saddle clips and self-tapping screws.

Construction began in 2015 and is due for completion in the fall of 2017.
