Ferragon acquires Steel Rolling Holdings

Cleveland-based Ferragon Corp. has acquired the Steel Rolling Holdings (SRH) facility in Gibraltar, Mich., and has renamed it Ferrolux Metals Co.- Gibraltar Plant.

The acquisition effectively doubles the Ferrolux presence in Detroit, with the Gibraltar facility providing batch annealing, temper rolling, and tandem mill cold rolling for automotive-grade steels and the Ferrolux Metals - Wayne Plant offering slitting and inspection of cold-rolled sheets for exposed automotive applications.

The ISO 9001:2008-certified Gibraltar plant currently features a four-high, four-stand tandem mill with VAI/Siemens level 1 and 2 controls, 17 Ebner annealing bases, and a two-high temper mill. The facility was purchased with the specific purpose of becoming the future home of a new continuous anneal line that will use 100 percent hydrogen for strip cooling to produce AHSS grades including dual-phase (DF), TRIP, martensitic, Q&P, and other grades from 580- to 1,500-MPA yield strength. The addition of the continuous annealing line is scheduled for completion in Q2 2016.

Steve Swan, former SRH general manager, and most of his staff have been retained to manage the transition and to help implement future commercial plans for the facility.
