Former LTV, AISI chairman dies

Retired LTV chairman David H. Hoag, who helped bring together two steel manufacturers to create LTV Steel Co. and later served as chairman of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), died Aug. 6 of complications from lung cancer. He was 65.

Hoag began his industry career with Jones & Laughlin Steel Co. as a sales trainee. He retired as LTV’s CEO in 1998, but remained as chairman until early 1999.

AISI awarded Hoag one of the steel industry’s most prestigious honors, the Gary Memorial Medal, in 1995.
