Heidtman Steel commissions new Indiana slitting facility

Toledo, Ohio-based Heidtman Steel, a provider of flat-rolled carbon steel, has fully commissioned its newest slitting plant in East Chicago, Ind.

The 120,000-sq.-ft. building features a new Alcos slitter, designed to process AHSS. The line can slit materials from 0.015 to 0.250 in. thick and up to 78 in. wide. It can handle coils weighing up to 70,000 lbs. and measuring 84 in. dia. The line comprises an inline leveler with light- and heavy-gauge capabilities, three slitting heads, X-ray gauge monitoring, and a turret recoiler.

In addition to AHSS products, the line can slit carbon flat-rolled steel products, including surface-critical HRPO, cold-rolled, galvanized, galvannealed, and galvalume steel.
