Kobe Steel to build plant in Kentucky
Japan-based Kobe Steel Ltd. has announced it will establish a new company, Kobelco Aluminum Products & Extrusions Inc. (KPEX), in Bowling Green, Ky. The firm will manufacture and sell aluminum extrusions for the automotive sector in the U.S.
The new company will make car frame and bumper materials. The integrated production facility will include operations from melting to fabrication. Fabrication is expected to begin in the second half of 2017, and melting to extrusion processes will begin in the second half of 2018. Total investment is expected to reach $46.7 million, and the new company will create 110 jobs.
