Nucor praises SIMA extension

March 10, 2005

Nucor Corp. praised the President and U.S. Commerce Secretary Gutierrez for extending and expanding the Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) system.

"We're pleased that the President fulfilled his commitment to continue this important program, which is vital to the stability of the U.S. steel industry," said Dan DiMicco, vice chairman, president, and CEO. "We appreciate Secretary Gutierrez' leadership and will work with him to continue the President's initiative to eliminate government supported and subsidized steelmaking capacity.

"The steel industry is a cyclical industry that is still subject to destabilizing and sudden surges of imports. [SIMA] and our trade laws are critical tools needed to address import surges and illegal trade practices," DiMicco said.
