Nucor to acquire Joy Global plate mill in Texas

Nucor Corp., Charlotte, N.C., has agreed to acquire Joy Global's steel plate mill in Longview, Texas.

The mill, which produces carbon and alloy plate products from 1 to 12 in. thick and up to 138 in. wide with heat-treating capabilities, has an annual capacity of 180,000 tons. It employs about 140 people.

Nucor also has plants in Charlotte and Alabama that produce plate for manufacturers of barges, bridges, heavy equipment, rail-cars, refinery tanks, ships, wind towers, and armor.
