Ponsse wins Swedish Steel Prize 2015

SSAB has announced that the winner of the international Swedish Steel Prize 2015 is Ponsse from Finland. The prize recognizes the company’s use of high-strength steel in the Scorpion forest harvester, which has a new ergonomically focused design.

The harvester features a symmetrical crane boom where the operator sits in the center point of all movements. It offers the operator total visibility.

By using Strenx™ 700 MC Plus high-strength steel in the crane arms, Strenx 700 in the chassis, and Hardox® 450 in the cutter head, the manufacturer achieved a lower overall weight in the harvester, which helps increase maneuverability over rough terrain.

Lower weight allowed more bearings to be added, which gives the harvester its stability. In addition, fuel consumption has been reduced and boom movements are faster.
