Samuel Winnipeg expands size, process capacity

Metals processor and distributor Samuel, Son & Co. Ltd., Mississauga, Ont., is investing more than $16 million in an expansion project to be completed over the next 12 months at its Winnipeg, Man., facility.

The project includes a 25,000-sq.-ft. expansion to the current 88,000-sq.-ft. facility. It is intended specifically to house a Bradbury cut-to-length line capable of producing product from coil up to 0.500 in. thick by 96 in. wide in lengths up to 50 ft. The line will include a Butech Bliss stretcher leveler capable of generating stress- and memory-free product up to 85,000-PSI yield strength.

Increased lifting capacity also will be added to the facility, providing the opportunity to process from coils weighing up to 80,000 lbs. The company also is upgrading its existing heavy-gauge cut-to-length line at the facility by adding a new Precision Leveler® from Herr-Voss Stamco equipped with the new Veritas Drive™ technology.

Capacity of the line will be up to 0.250 in. thick by 72 in. wide at 75,000-PSI yield strength and will provide shape correction beyond that of traditional roller leveling, says the company.
