Universal Steel upgrades stretcher to process 1-in.-thick material

Cleveland-based Universal Steel, a flat-rolled-steel service center with emphasis on hot-rolled, cold-rolled, and coated carbon steels, has announced that its stretcher-leveler has received a number of upgrades to allow the machine to stretch and cut steel up to 1 in. thick in widths up to 74 in. and lengths to 700 in., including high-strength steels beyond 100,000-PSI yield.

Called The Memory Eraser for its ability to produce stress-free, memory-free sheets, the Butech Bliss stretcher-leveler exerts more than 3 million lbs. of stretching force to flatten steel, equalize internal fiber structure, and erase material memory. With no residual memory, stretcher-leveled material is suitable for operations such as laser, oxy, and plasma cutting.
