U.S. Steel's Granite City Works earns Ford's Q1 certification

August 30, 2005

United States Steel Corp.'s Granite City Works has earned Ford Motor Co.'s Bulk Materials Q1 quality certification. To achieve certification, Granite City Works had to demonstrate excellence in four critical areas: capable systems (QS-9000 and ISO 14001 certification), ongoing performance, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.

Granite City Works began the Q1 process in early 2002 and began shipping hot-rolled pickled and oiled blanks to Ford's Dearborn (Mich.) stamping plant later that same year. Much of the hot-rolled steel is used as a support member in Ford's F-150 pickup truck.
