Nucor ranked as largest steelmaker in U.S.

No company produces more steel in the United States than Nucor Corporation, according to rankings published in the May 2008 issue of American Metal Market.

The rankings by the magazine, its first in recent years, track which company produces the most steel on U.S. soil. Nucor topped the list with more than 22 million tons. U.S. Steel was second with 16.8 million tons. ArcelorMittal USA Inc. was third.

"The American Metal Marketrankings highlight Nucor's commitment to the American worker and our investment in domestic production capacity," said Daniel R. DiMicco, Nucor President and Chief Executive Officer. "At a time when more and more manufacturing jobs are moving overseas, Nucor's approach is to partner with our employees to make our company the safest, highest quality, lowest cost, most productive and most profitable steel company in the world.".

Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Nucor operates 53 facilities throughout the U.S. and one plant in Point Lisas, Trinidad. The company also has other operations through wholly owned subsidiaries, Harris Steel and the David J. Joseph Company (DJJ).
