Lee Steel purchases acidless pickling coil line
- July 10, 2012
- News Release
- Bending and Forming
Lee Steel Corp., Novi, Mich., has purchased an eco pickled surface (EPS®) coil line from Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, Ill. The line removes scale from HRS material up to 0.375 in. at 72 in. wide and coil weights up to 70,000 lbs.
The acidless pickling process uses a slurry-blasting mixture of ordinary water and angular steel grit to remove surface scale from hot-roll black material to produce a scale-free, clean, rust-resistant surface. Both the water and grit are recirculated for continuous reuse. The removed scale and depleted grit are filtered from the system for disposal.
Treated material does not require a protective coating of oil to keep it from rusting. The process also mitigates mill surface defects such as small pits, silicon streaks, roller bruises, and acid pickling stains.
The new line comprises an entry coil inspection, removal, and banding station; an uncoiler; a peeler breaker; threading pinch rolls; an entry crop shear; a scale breaker cassette leveler; two EPS cells; an exit crop shear; a tension module; a thickness gauge; a traversing recoiler; a Parsytec surface inspection system; and an electrostatic oiler.
