AMECO USA creates backdrop for the Ronald Reagan statue in Washington, D.C.

AMECO USA, a Cleveland-based custom metal fabrication company, produced the crescent-shaped backdrop for the Ronald Reagan Memorial Statue installation at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.

Adorned with an eagle head motif and the president's name, the 40-ft.-long, 10-in.-thick, polished stainless steel plate arched wall weighs 4 tons and curves inward toward a 9-ft.-tall bronze sculpture of former President Reagan. The backdrop took eight weeks and 500 hours to complete at the Cleveland plant.

AMECO received architectural drawings, which it then converted to solid-model fabrication drawings. The company also determined the location and spacing of the letters; calculated the curvature of the heavy stainless plates; performed the cutting, forming, plate rolling, and welding; and shipped the entire backdrop to the National Airport, where it was joined with the sculpture.
