ASTM Intl. launches leadership program
- January 7, 2013
- News Release
- Shop Management
International standards development and delivery organization ASTM Intl., W. Conshohocken, Pa., has launched the Leadership Connection initiative to raise awareness regarding the many opportunities available for hands-on leadership experience available by engaging in ASTM technical committee activities.
The program emphasizes how professionals can leverage their ASTM membership and involvement on standards-developing committees to enhance communications skills; strengthen conflict resolution, team-building, and negotiating skills; gain leadership experience; improve organizational skills and familiarity with parliamentary procedures; interact directly with leading industry and government stakeholders from around the world; and represent their company on major standards-related issues and initiatives.
A newly launched section of ASTM's website serves as the gateway to the program's resources. This area of the site includes reference articles outlining strategies for succeeding as a standards professional; best-practice guidance for technical committee officers on orienting new members; and information for employers highlighting the value and impact of standards on business growth and corporate performance.
A mentoring program within the initiative pairs a new ASTM member with a seasoned one for personalized instruction on the inner workings of ASTM technical committees.
