ATK to open aircraft part production facility in Utah

Alliant Techsystems Inc. (ATK) is nearing completion of its Aircraft Commercial Center of Excellence (ACCE) in Clearfield, Utah. The new facility will serve as the headquarters for ATK Aerospace Structures' commercial aircraft programs and will support the manufacturing of commercial aircraft composite structures and engine components for the Airbus A350, as well as General Electric and Rolls-Royce engine programs.

The new, 615,000-sq.-ft. facility is designed to manufacture more than 10,000 parts per month at rate production levels. It features patented, automated stiffener forming technology for both linear and radial airframe structures, capable of producing 25 miles of composite structures per month; large-diameter autoclaves that can cure parts more than 72 ft. long; engine case wrap capability and assembly; CNC machining; waterjet capability; and automated ultrasonic and nondestructive inspection systems.

The company plans to hold a grand opening in August.
