D&S Mfg. marks 50 years in business with open house

D&S Mfg. has invited the public to an open house on May 16 at its 150,000-sq.-ft. facility in Black River Falls, Wis., to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The event will include guided plant tours, a photo gallery, and refreshments.

“We have come a long way since my dad purchased a local welding and repair shop in 1965,” said President Mike Dougherty. The company moved to its current location in 1966, occupying a new 5,000-sq.-ft. facility. After multiple expansions over the years, the company added another 9,300 sq. ft. recently to accommodate new fabrication equipment, including an Okuma MCR-A5CII bridge mill and a Bystronic BySprint Pro 4020 6-kW fiber laser cutting system.

In 2013, to ensure continued local ownership of the company and to reward the employees responsible for its success, D&S became majority employee-owned.

D&S manufactures large plate metal fabrications and complex weldments. Fabrication equipment at the plant includes laser, high-definition plasma and oxyfuel cutting equipment, vertical and horizontal machining units, and manual and robotic welding systems. Additional services offered include liquid spray painting, powder coating, shotblasting, assembly, and testing.
