Epic Systems, Boy Scouts team up for STEM workshop

Manufacturing engineering and fabrication firm Epic Systems Inc. recently teamed up with the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America for a mini-engineering event. The workshop, held at Epic’s fabrication and manufacturing engineering facility in South Saint Louis, Mo., had more than 60 participants.

During the event, students designed their own race cars, built and sank tinfoil boats, and melted Styrofoam with acetone. Engineers from Epic led the workshops, teaching concepts including 2-D and 3-D design practices, engineering disciplines and career opportunities, and engineering for manufacturing systems.

The SLU aviation team and Washington University Formula Car teams were also on-hand at the event to show off their projects and answer questions.
