GE Aviation to open jet engine assembly facility in Indiana

GE Aviation, a manufacturer of jet engines and aircraft systems, has announced that operations will begin at its new $100 million jet engine assembly facility in Lafayette, Ind., on Sept. 14, with production beginning Jan. 1, 2016.

The company considered 135 different parameters during the site selection evaluation; logistics was a major component of that assessment because the facility will not have any raw material inventory on-site. Turbine and fan components that are bigger than cars will be flown into Chicago and then trucked to and from the company’s primary warehouse in Cincinnati and the new facility.
