Geometric Ltd., COEP to promote 3-D printing

Geometric Ltd., Mumbai, India, a provider of product life cycle management, global engineering services, and offshore software product development, has signed a memorandum of understanding with College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) in India and Colorado State University (CSU), Fort Collins, Colo., for setting up the Geometric 3-D Make Lab at COEP. The lab will be open to students and faculty of all colleges, as well as industry personnel and the community at large, allowing them to build 3-D-printed objects and explore the hardware and software used in the additive manufacturing process.

Geometric plans to invest up to $200,000 over a period of three years toward setting up the lab, after which the lab is expected to be self-reliant. Geometric also will provide software expertise in the areas of 3-D printing, scanning, PLM, and CAD, as well as projects for graduate and postgraduate students on the additive manufacturing process.

CSU, which already has a similar lab, will provide knowledge of additive manufacturing and setting up a broad-access 3-D printing lab, as well as software tools.
