Joe Mehl, MACOG regional planner; Evan Miller, president and CEO of Hertzler; Jessica Honegger, NIPSCO environmental coordinator.

Hertzler Systems Inc., Goshen, Ind., a provider of automated SPC software, has received the Partners for Clean Air Award for 2014 from the Michiana Area Council of Governments. (MACOG), an intergovernmental agency for northern Indiana.

In 2013 Hertzler completed the installation of 48 solar panels at its Goshen location and plugged into Northern Indiana Public Service Company’s (NIPSCO) Feed-in-Tariff program that buys back electrical power from customers that generate their own clean energy. The energy generated by the solar panels feeds electricity directly into the NIPSCO power grid, generating an estimated 13,317 kWh per year and providing the equivalent of 44 percent of Hertzler’s current yearly electricity consumption.

The Partners for Clean Air Program is designed to help educate and promote clean air in northern Indiana by recognizing businesses, individuals, and organizations that do their part.
