Hitachi Construction Truck Mfg. plans $33 million expansion

FedDev Ontario, through its Prosperity Initiative program, has awarded $6.6 million to Hitachi Construction Truck Mfg. Ltd., Guelph, Ont., to expand its current facility, increase its plant capacity, and introduce new technologies.

"Improved demand for base metals and coal has resulted in a need for more large mining trucks in the massive mining operations in countries like Colombia and Indonesia, where Hitachi has a major customer base," said Gary Goodyear, minister of state for FedDev Ontario.

Hitachi Construction Truck Mfg. will double the size of its Guelph workforce and boost its output of giant mining trucks by almost 100 percent. New robotic welding and advanced assembly techniques will be added to help improve productivity. The company also plans to establish a product and advanced manufacturing testing center.
