ITW Muller wins Greener Package™ Environmental Impact Award

ITW Muller, a manufacturer of stretch-wrap equipment and film based in Arlington Heights, Ill., has won the 2011 Environmental Impact Award from Greener Package. Its OctoMAX™ monitoring system, used on the Octopus 303 rotary ring stretch-wrapping machine, won the award in the packaging machinery category for its consistent, optimized use of stretch wrap.

The award honors top innovations in five categories relating to sustainable packaging. Each submission was required to include verifiable data for a minimum of one environmental impact, such as greenhouse gas reduction and life-cycle impacts.

Using proprietary hardware and software, the monitoring system measures equipment and film effectiveness. It helps ensure the optimal settings, prestretch gears, number of wraps, and amount of film are set at all times while also monitoring film performance. The system provides real-time information via e-mail, an online portal, or on the operator interface or HMI display.
