Lampin discusses careers, manufacturing jobs at Manufacturing Day panel

Lampin Corp., a precision component manufacturer based in Uxbridge, Mass., celebrated Manufacturing Day on Oct. 1 by speaking to educators and fellow manufacturers at the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce's panel discussion, "Made in Central Mass: Manufacturing Matters." The invitation-only panel was assembled to address the growing skills gap that threatens to hamper Massachusetts' manufacturing industry.

Lampin searches schools throughout central Massachusetts for students demonstrating enthusiasm and interest in making things and offers part-time employment opportunities to students in their senior year of high school and beyond.

The panel discussed several initiatives that have been implemented at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Quinsigamond Community College that will help students earn college credits for courses in engineering and CNC software operation. They also discussed the skills that students should be developing in preparation for careers in manufacturing: critical thinking, innovation, communication, and mathematics.
