MFG.com implements geographic location verification of facilities

Marietta, Ga.-based online manufacturing marketplace MFG.com has announced the implementation of safeguards to protect users of its global platform from unknowingly engaging in commerce or competing with foreign companies. All manufacturers now are required to certify the geographic location of their firm's primary production facility.

This change will help increase marketplace transparency for buyer and supplier members, ensure fair and open competition among suppliers from different countries, and prevent deceptive practices by some suppliers representing themselves as local while subsourcing to low-cost countries.

MFG.com recognized that foreign firms had been registering as U.S. companies by using post office boxes located within the U.S. as their business addresses. Under these new rules, firms misrepresenting the location of their production facilities are subject to permanent banning from the marketplace.

The online marketplace helps sourcing professionals and engineers to locate quality manufacturers for metal stamping, metal fabrication, CNC machining, and injection molding.
