Newcomb Spring triples size with new facility

Newcomb Spring Corp., Decatur, Ga., a supplier of compression springs, extension springs, torsion springs, wire forms, stampings, rings, hooks, and battery contact springs, has announced plans to move its Carolina plant to a new location in Gastonia, N.C. The 47,000-sq.-ft. facility will triple the plant’s square footage and allow for expanded capabilities. Newcomb Spring of Carolina expects to be operating in the new location by Oct. 31.

More than $1 million worth of new equipment has been installed at the location, increasing the plant’s output capacity and doubling material wire size capabilities from 0.080 to 0.162 in. dia. New technology automates wire forming processes, eliminating many manual operations. Additional quality control technologies, such as torque testing, load testing, dimensional laser, and photographic measurement equipment, also have been installed.
