Nissan Forklift Corp. produces 200,000th forklift

Nissan Forklift Corp. manufactured its 200,000th forklift in at its Marengo, Ill., facility in 2011. A 3,500-lb., Platinum II Cushion I.C. forklift was the 200,000th lift truck to be produced since the company began making forklifts in the U.S. in 1988.

It took Nissan Forklift 14 years to produce the first 100,000 forklifts, but only about half that time to produce the second 100,000.

Over the past 10 years, the company has implemented the Nissan Production Way and Customer Service Way principles, as well as the Nissan Green Program. The company reports that through these initiatives, it has improved labor efficiency by more than 28 percent, reduced internal quality defects by more than 66 percent, and reduced lead time on production by more than 80 percent.
