Norsk Titanium, Clarkson University launch additive manufacturing training/research initiative

Clarkson University President Tony Collins and Norsk Titanium CEO Warren M. Boley Jr.

Norsk Titanium US Inc., a supplier of aerospace-grade, additive-manufactured, structural titanium components, has joined forces with Clarkson University, Potsdam, N.Y., to develop new research projects relating to advanced metal additive manufacturing (AM) through Norsk’s proprietary Rapid Plasma Deposition™ (RPD™) process. Through this joint initiative, the two entities also will create education programs to prepare Clarkson graduates for careers in AM, launch workforce training programs in support of Norsk’s Plattsburgh, N.Y., production facility, and execute technology demonstration and transfer opportunities together.

The 67,500-sq.-ft. Plattsburgh Demonstration & Qualification Center (PDQC) opened in September, and the first of 20 MERKE IV™ RPD machines arrived in October. The PDQC facility is funded by a Norsk Titanium investment designed to accelerate production and the creation of jobs and economic development in the Plattsburgh region.
