PTR’s job shop adds EBW system, expands metallographic lab

PTR-Precision Technologies Inc., Enfield, Conn., has added an electron beam welding (EBW) system to its job shop. The small-chamber system allows fast throughput with short pumping cycles and multistation fixtures for small components and high volumes.

The system, which has full 5-axis CNC with 15-kW power capability, is fitted with high-speed deflection with EBO Jump multibeam welding ability. The machine joins eight other existing EBW systems in the job shop.

The company also has invested in a new metallurgical laboratory to support both production systems manufacturing and job shop applications. New automatic polishing and metallurgical mounting stations, as well as microscopes with advanced image analysis software, are being used to develop welding processes and maintain quality standards for customers.
