STI/SPFA presents steel water storage tank seminars

The Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association (STI/SPFA), Lake Zurich, Ill., will present it steel water storage tank seminar Aug. 26 in Lisle, Ill., and Sept. 29 in Sacramento, Calif.

Speakers will present criteria for selection and design of water storage tanks with special focus on changes to the American Water Works Association's (AWWA's) D100 Standard for Welded Steel Tanks, which has undergone significant changes since 2005.

Seminar program topics include:

  • Why steel makes sense for water storage tanks.
  • How to interpret and use the AWWA standards.
  • 2011 changes in the standards, such as including composite elevated tanks and cathodic protection for the interior submerged surfaces of steel water storage tanks.
  • How to use life cycle cost analysis to choose the most appropriate tank.
  • What to consider when selecting, sizing, and locating tanks.
  • Tank operation and maintenance.
  • How to generate additional revenue with cellular antenna leases.

STI/SPFA is an association for companies that fabricate steel tanks, pipe, and pressure vessels for use in the petroleum, food, water, and chemical processing industries.
