WCC signs five-year contract to continue ironworkers instructor training program

Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Washtenaw Community College (WCC) and the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union have signed a five-year contract extension to continue to hold the ironworkers instructor training program on the WCC campus.

This year marks the 31st year the annual program has been held; it moved to WCC in 2010. Each July the partnership brings ironworker instructors together from across the U.S. and Canada to train their peers with contemporary skill sets to meet the demands of today's construction industry.

The program trains for proficiency in jobs involving welding, structural steel erection, architectural and ornamental ironwork, concrete reinforcement, rigging and machinery moving, and installation, as well as blueprint reading and computer skills.
