Whirlpool Corp. named to 2015 Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index

Benton Harbor, Mich.-based appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corp. has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability and natural resource efficiency with inclusion on the 2015 Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index. The annual review identifies the top-scoring companies in 24 industry categories through a comprehensive assessment of economic, environmental, and social criteria.

Companies were evaluated on corporate governance, risk and crisis management, customer relationship management, and environmental policy/management system.

Earlier this year the company announced plans to use wind turbines to power its manufacturing facility in Findlay, Ohio, and was named an ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year.

In 2014 the company introduced the HybridCare™ clothes dryer under the Whirlpool brand, equipped with hybrid heat pump technology and designed to regenerate energy during the drying cycle to reduce energy consumption. In a partnership with Purdue University, the firm has pioneered the ReNEWW House project to retrofit an existing home to achieve net zero water, waste, and energy.
