CHS delivers nonmarking coil feed line to lighting/appliance-maker

CHS Automation, Roseville, Mich., has built a nonmarking coil feed line designed for running prepainted material for a manufacturer in the appliance and lighting industry.

The 18- by 0.080-in. feed line features a double end pulloff coil reel and coil car combination, 10,000-lb.-per-side capacity, a coil loading cart with auto centering, a seven-roll powered straightener, threading table, and a Matrix model MX300 servo roll feed.

As the coil unwinds, the OD is monitored by a laser and the brake pressure is adjusted automatically through the run. A custom dual-caliper system allows for smooth unwinding of the coil and very low tension for handling the very thin, prepainted material.

The powered straightener features a high-lift head for ease of roll cleaning and neoprene-coated exit rollers to prevent marking of the material. The thread table features a nylon top for automatic material threading from the reel or straightener to the press feed. The cabinet-mounted servo feed features neoprene-coated rollers and a Rexroth/Indramat servo control package with an RFE output card and touchscreen.

The line can run step-feeds of different lengths and fire GAG outputs to the tooling to make special patterns in the blanks.
