Ferrous 85" Co. starts up North America's largest slitter

Ferrous Metal Processing has installed a 0.625- by 87-in. slitting line at TMK IPSCO's new facility in Wilder, Ky., operating as Ferrous 85" Co. According to the manufacturer, it is the largest slitter in North America.

The slitter can process master coils from 30 to 87 in. and up to 82,000 lbs. Slit width capacity is from 12 to 85 in. in gauges from 0.156 to 0.625 in.

Ferrous 85" Co. will slit for ERW pipe supplier TMK IPSCO on a toll basis. The companies have entered into a 12-year contract in which Ferrous will provide 100 percent of TMK IPSCO's slitting needs at the Wilder plant. Ferrous 85” Co. will also serve other customers in the North American market as capacity allows.

VIn keeping with its plan to improve operational efficiency and add value for its oil and gas industry customers, the partnership will allow TMK IPSCO to better control its slitting needs by using Ferrous’ proprietary slitter arbor technology.

Ferrous 85" Co. is an operating division of Ferragon Corp., supplying the southern and eastern U.S. with slitting on a toll basis. Ferragon oversees the operations of Ferrous Metal Processing Co.
