High Steel Service Center installs stretcher leveling line
- April 26, 2012

- Bending and Forming
High Steel Service Center LLC has added a 0.500- by 72-in. Red Bud Industries cut-to-length line at its Lancaster, Pa., facility. The line includes an adjustable SUREGRIP™ stretcher leveling system.
The stretcher frames can be adjusted automatically to a multiple of the part length to avoid double stretching, which is important for running high-strength materials. The unit also features metallic grippers that prevent slippage when running high-strength or oily material. Proprietary software allows the machine to be adjusted to the material being processed.
When running heavy-gauge material, the line operates in start/stop mode. However, material up to 0.315 in. runs in a loop to help achieve higher speeds and better tolerances. The line also features a coil preparation area where each coil is inspected and the bands removed while the line is in operation. Once the previously run coil tails out, the line automatically loads the next coil onto the uncoiler without operator attention. The remaining coils in line then are automatically advanced to the next position.
