Metalforming Controls Corp. receives grant

U.S. Rep. Don Manzullo, R-Ill., has announced that Metalforming Controls Corp., Cary, Ill., has been awarded a $250,000 grant to commercialize an advanced manufacturing control system that could help reduce U.S. gasoline consumption.

Dr. Redmond Clark, president of Metalforming Controls Corp., and Cary Mayor Steve Lamal joined Manzullo at the grant announcement for the company's Force Modulator™ system in stamping press applications. The system allows for easier forming of lightweight, high-strength steel, which improves vehicle safety and fuel efficiency and, until now, has proven difficult to form in many automotive parts.

The new system would make lighter-weight vehicles possible, potentially saving a quarter of a billion gallons each year.
