Vertical drawing press from Schuler helps Tubex win award for prototype

January 7, 2014

An aerosol can produced on a Schuler Icon V-Drive packaging machine has won the Can of the Year Award in silver for Tubex, the packaging manufacturer, located in Rangendingen, Germany.

The prototype can has a diameter of 50 mm and rounded shoulders produced using the vertical drawing and ironing process. The press produces the can with a thinner wall than is possible with the impact extrusion method, thus reducing material consumption by about 20 percent. The manufacturer uses aluminum alloys for the product, which are up to 80 percent recycled.

Schuler, Göppingen, Germany, offers presses, automation, dies, and services for the metal forming industry and lightweight-vehicle construction.
