AWS achieves CWI milestone

The American Welding Society (AWS), Miami, reached a milestone of nearly 22,400 active certified welding inspectors (CWI). This achievement reflects the growth of the program, which has certified more than 52,000 welding inspectors since its launch in 1976.

The CWI program is recognized worldwide for its stringent certification standards and has been a contributor to improved weld quality and reduced inspection costs. Several countries have adopted the program, generating its considerable growth since it went global in 1988. In the last five years, international certifications have increased by more than 80 percent. This year the society expects to certify approximately 1,000 CWIs in more than 25 countries, which would be a record.

AWS was founded in 1919 and is the world's largest organization dedicated to advancing the science, technology, and application of welding.
