Mistras-Metco opens NDE lab in Houston

Mistras Group Inc.’s Metco, a nondestructive evaluation (NDE) services provider, recently announced the opening of its largest purpose-built NDE laboratory in Houston. The facility, one of two company locations in the Houston area, houses 13 industrial radiography scanning bullpens, the most of any NDE facility in the U.S., according to the company.

The radiography bullpens are accompanied by a 3-6 MeV linear accelerator (LINAC), making the new NDE laboratory one of only three testing facilities in the U.S. with the capability to penetrate up to 16 in. of material, the company states. The linear accelerator can complete a single exposure in minutes.
