TRUMPF Inc. broke ground Nov. 21 on a new laser building being built on its Farmington, Conn., campus. The new research and manufacturing facility will be used to develop new lasers and expand the company's production of laser resonators.
The high-tech facility, which adds 83,000 square feet to the existing TRUMPF campus, will feature a new production hall designed for manufacturing different types of CO2and solid-state laser resonators, as well as a laser research lab and laser development department. It also will house the company's laser marking application and sales group and give the information technologies department a larger area for a state-of-the-art server room, the company says.
Construction of the new building is expected to be completed by the end of 2007 and is estimated to cost more than $20 million. The company hopes to open the building in early 2008.
TRUMPF Inc. is a subsidiary of the TRUMPF Group, a privately-held company headquartered in Germany. In Connecticut, TRUMPF manufactures precision laser cutting and punching machinery and gas and solid-state laser resonators. The company employs 650 people in the U.S., the majority of whom work at the Farmington facility.
