TRUMPF introduces disk laser system

TRUMPF Inc., Farmington, Conn., unveiled its TruDisk 6002 laser with 6-kW laser power and 8-mm mrad beam quality to international customers and interested parties during an event in Schramberg, Germany.

The event featured live demonstrations of robot scanner welding for more than 120 guests from nine countries. Ralf Bernhardt of DaimlerChrysler AG and Timo Becker of Volkswagen AG gave practical examples of laser welding with disk lasers. Because the disk laser is not sensitive to back reflection, laser light cables more than 100 m long can be used. Heavily reflecting materials like copper can be processed without problems.

The company says the 6-kW disk laser will be available in North America in fall 2006.
