TRUMPF's laser facility construction plan approved

TRUMPF Inc. has received town approval to construct a new laser facility at its Farmington, Conn., campus.

The laser factory is designed to consolidate the company's local laser R&D, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and sales. With a building footprint of about 64,000 sq. ft., the facility will offer more than 90,000 sq. ft. of usable space.

Rolf Biekert, president and CEO of TRUMPF, said the factory is part of an overall growth plan to help better meet the market demand for lasers. The factory doubles the company's current space allocated for laser research and manufacturing of gas and solid-state laser resonators.

The company expects to begin site preparation and building in November 2006. Construction is anticipated to take approximately 12 to 14 months.
