J & D Tube Benders receives TPJ-The Tube & Pipe Journal's Industry Award 2011
- December 13, 2010
- News Release
- Tube and Pipe Fabrication
J & D Tube Benders Inc., a custom manufacturer and distributor of tubular components and assemblies located in Schofield, Wis., has received TPJ's Industry Award 2011 presented by TPJ-The Tube & Pipe Journal® and sponsored by the Tube & Pipe Association Intl. (TPA). The TPA award is bestowed upon an individual or company within the tube and pipe fabricating and producing industry that has successfully improved operations, attained business success, and contributed to both the local and industry communities.
The TPJ Industry Award 2011 will be presented to J & D Tube Benders in a ceremony during The FABRICATOR's Leadership Summit, which begins March 2 at Disney's BoardWalk Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
"This award is designed to recognize those individual leaders and companies that display innovation and determination to succeed," said Gerald Shankel, president and CEO of FMA. "Manufacturing is the backbone of America, and we're proud to honor J & D Tube Benders as an industry success story."
J & D Tube Benders used a three-part strategy to achieve success during the recent economic slowdown. Rather than resorting to long-term layoffs, it used the downtime to provide cross-training for its employees. It also spent more than $1 million on equipment and tooling. Finally, it completed a lean manufacturing program that it started in February 2008. These efforts have helped the company gain what it could from the slowdown, while positioning itself to prosper as the industry recovers.
The company's compensation plan reveals the extent of its commitment to its employees. Despite a drop in revenue during the recession, it rewarded its employees with a substantial production bonus and retirement plan contribution.
As the winner, one company representative and one guest receive complimentary registration, travel, and hotel accommodations to The FABRICATOR's Leadership Summit.
J & D Tube Benders also will be featured in the cover story in the January/February 2011 issue of TPJ-The Tube & Pipe Journal, an international trade journal for manufacturers that produce or use metal tube and pipe.
"J & D Tube Benders has earned the award through their strategic approach to new business development and their dedication to having a great team deliver on their business commitments," said Edward Youdell, group publisher of FMA Communications Inc. "They have demonstrated that when technology is matched with a talented work force, success and growth will be the outcome."
