STI/SPFA awards Pipeline Project of the Year

The Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association (STI/SPFA) named two of its members as recipients of the national Pipeline Project of the Year award for 2008.

American SpiralWeld Pipe, Columbia, S.C., a subsidiary of American Cast Iron Pipe Co., and Mid-America Pipe Fabricating & Supply LLC, Scammon, Kan., joined forces to manufacture pipe and fittings for a new ultraviolet disinfection facility in Mt. Pleasant, N.Y., which will treat 90 percent of New York City's drinking water.

American furnished more than 5,700 ft. of 144-in.dia. pipe and 4,450 ft. of additional pipe in various diameters. Straight pipe sections were shipped directly to the job site; others that required additional fabrication were shipped to Mid-America.

STI/SPFA is an association serving companies that fabricate steel tanks, pipe, and pressure vessels for use in the petroleum, food, water, and chemical processing industries.
