Siemens to install quenching, tempering equipment at Borusan Mannesmann

Siemens, Washington, D.C., will provide Borusan Mannesmann, a Turkish steel pipe manufacturer, with FCE – F&D Furnace Technologies quenching and tempering equipment for its first U.S. location. Borusan is building a new ERW pipe mill and accompanying heat treatment plant in Baytown, Texas, to process oil country tubular goods (OCTG).

Siemens will supply a direct-fired, walking-beam austenitizing furnace; a high-pressure, water spray quench system; a convective, walking-beam tempering furnace; all associated material handling equipment; all necessary instrumentation; and PLC system. The services include engineering, delivering, installing, and commissioning for the heat treatment plant.

The new facility will produce API N-80 through Q-125, as well as custom-engineered grades. Completion is expected in third-quarter 2014.
