American to build spiral-welded pipe facility in Michigan

American, Birmingham, Ala., has announced plans to build a new spiral-welded pipe facility in Flint, Mich. The facility initially will support the Karegnondi Water Authority (KWA) project recently awarded to American, and later other regional water infrastructure projects.

The KWA pipeline, scheduled for completion in 2015, will supply 60 million gallons of water a day to the region. American will supply 60 miles of spiral-welded pipe, 17 miles of ductile iron pipe, and 24 large-diameter Flex-Ring® gate valves.

Construction of the spiral-welded facility in Flint is expected to begin in early 2014, with operations starting late next year. The facility will employ 50 to 60 people.
